Through this interactive session you’ll learn about and engage in techniques for strengthening literacy through the integration of the arts. While structured literacy emphasizes explicit, systematic, cumulative instruction in reading comprehension and word recognition, the integration of art and music can reinforce this learning by applying literacy knowledge and skills in other contexts. Often art and music teachers are asked to address expectations coming from district/state levels. How can they meet these requirements without jeopardizing high quality art or music education? Furthermore, how can non-arts teachers reinforce literacy skills and understandings when integrating with disciplines such as art and music? We’ll address these areas and more through this engaging yet informative session.
